7 June 2008 01:22On an average, I take care of 6 pts/shift, interact with possible 10 others. Unless the pt dies (and I remember all of my pt deaths), or there is something "ODD" (weird surgery, VIP, something that makes they-as a patient-STICK OUT).
I'm the one who takes most of the shitty patients, or patients with shitty families. Cause-I can handle it. I put on my pink kid size boxing gloves, and go for it. A little bit of ass-kissing, old skool hands on nursing, and general care, can move mountains.

I havn't been able to stalk myself on "carrinbridge", however I heard that I am discussed on it. I also wouldn't be surprised if on some of the brain tumor boards-I'm discussed. People talk. Period.
A family member from TN came up to me in the hall, and remembered me. Now, her and her husband were here in DEC. I remember bits and pieces of the situation. She said that I and Heila were the best nurses, and they had the best nights with us. She said she wanted me to take care of her husband, and further sealed the deal to ask what I could do to assist in this process, almost to the point of bribery.
Nursing can be, at times, a thankless job. Whne a patient or a family member expresses his or her grattitude, or requests YOU to take care of them...
there is no words to describe that feeling.
