Lately, my favorite over used movie quote has been "You cut me real deep right now, you cut me real deep"-from Shrek one or Shrek 2. I'm not sure which one.

Shrek has put down Donkey (again), when Donkey reply's with his retaliation. His upset feelings last 0.0005 seconds of a frame of film, and Donkey's right back at being crazy. The put down rolled right off the shoulder onto the ground, deep into the earth.

Its this total regard of what was said, even though acknowledged that it was somewhat a jab into the side, that has been my montra of late. The fun little pokes and prodes at our daily life, that make it quite interesting...

Of course my dad didn't quite understand the quote when I used it in Europe hop-06, I still got a chuckle.

interesting enough. 4:00 a.m. phone calls. Wait till your mother hears about this! HA!
Nursing is one of those chosen careers. Frankly, one has to be completely nuts to have any desire to go into it, however the rewards (few), are worth more than the hope diamond.

A career of service, its often a thank-less job. Bitching from co-workers, doctors yelling, and administrative bullshit, plus Jacho for icing on the cake-can and will make for very unpleasant working conditions.

Shake, stir, and add to the batter; family issues, complicated patients, and demanding clients, its one chocholate cake-I'll pass on. No wonder many health care professionals resort to alternitve means (smoking, drinking, ect), to relieve stress.

One works long hours, usually short staffed, on his or her feet constantly, exposed to exotic and exciting diseases or viruses (MSRA, VRE, C-Diff, HIV, Staff, ect), all to try to put food on the table, and maybe once try to make the world a better place.

Not often, but every once in a great while, God gives you a break. A big break. A sign. A sign to show you, yes-even though NO one ever tells you anything positive, YES, even though your ready to walk out of the position, you are apprecaited.

Someone/anyone-tells you THANK YOU.

Not by flowers, or candy, or a note, but in person. For about 5 minutes. Informs you of your calming voice, your praise to the patient, the added touch of telling that post op lami where they are, what time it is, and who is all in the room while the pt is in an anesthia glazz. Informs you that "this may NOT care to you" when in reality-it soothes your heart, and makes a smile form on your face. How your soft spoken, yet get the job done, and are the most excellent nurse, and how they appreciated the nursing CARE.

That. That is what it is all about. Not the paycheck, not the initials behind your name. KNOWING you made a difference.
