Die hard fans of J.K. Rowlings written adventures of an orphan wizard attending school will undoubtably be disapointed that Mike Newell took the 700+ page book and shucked it down to the core stripping detail and description found in the novel which Rowling is famous for. Yet still the two and a half hour movie maintains the story and plot with enough visuals to keep the viewer entertained. The Quiddish world cup alone was woth the admission ticket, and that is only 5 minutes of the film. The special effects and cinamagic brings to life a book in a way only hollywood and computer amination can.
The three musketers have aged, and grown since Harry Potter and the scorcers stone was released some 4 years ago. Not only is the comfort level increased, they are comming more involved with there characters and each of htem goes through the trial and tribulations of puberty.
Each of the directors of the series (Newell making #3) has his own take on it. IT was refreshing to see that he didn't change Hogwarts School from Curozon's vision. It gives both directors credit and remains some stability throughout the series. Even at 2.5 hours, the movie rips though the events faster than a time-turner, which may make some movie goers confused on the action sequence if htey havn't read any of the books. Of course the viewer also doesn't get bored to death weeding through detail that doesn't support the plot (obviously Dobby was cut out of the movie). Rowlling gives us a clue however-if something was cut from the movie, it won't be a major componet in the final novel expected in 2 years (notice that the entire cemetery sceene was kept unscathed).
Wonderful visual film that at times moves to fast for the commom viewer to understand. Best clif notes for the book. A-
