Of house and home
16 November 2005 01:14The landscapers came back today, and finished the patio sometime in the morning, right before it snowed. Looks like winter is comming early to Rochester this year. Yippie Skippy. They did an EXCELLENT job, and I absolutely love it. Although it won't get much use till the spring, it really brightens up a once gloomy spot. Now I will have to make a decision about the driveway and the side walk.
The house restoration/renovation is comming slowly but surely. THe next project will be the living room. I hope to plan my attack this winter and start on it next year. Will need to strip the baseboards and paint the walls, and "maybe" put in a light fixture-although I really like the fact there is no light fixture hanging down. I really question of there was one to begin with.
I'm planning on putting in a few "built" ins in the living room-bookcases with a faux fireplace mantle in the middle. Salvage one in chicago has some from torn down houses, but with a 700+ price, tag, its kind of out of my price range, specially trying to ship the S.O.B. from Chicago, its not really worth it. Surprisingly Target has some kick ass Mission bookcases that are semi-reasonable. The mantle I have will work with some improvisation-I just need to take some measurements and then get going. Although this project won't be orginal to the house-it will add more character and give it that Bungalow feel, I so long for.
The Previous owners decided to rip out 4 of the interior doors of the house, which I might add were all orignal. Although I have looked, I havn't found any in my searches. Finding 2 panel fir doors in this day and age is an impossible mission. However on www.woodport.com, there are 2 panel doors that can be stained to match the existing ones. How fun is that? FUN!!!
still working on the house history. I am sure the house is a kit home, but not confirmed. Wish I did have some old photos of hte house, but that may be a shot in the dark as well...
