thirteenrocksTrying to force myself out of the house. Visited Bill on Friday night and road tripped into Iowa. Been interested in the local places, I haven't fully explored yet. Mason City, was the destination. I wasn't about the "Music Man", Meredith Wilson stuff as much as the Frank Lloyd Write and the few thrift stores. The real reason I went, was the Bill Baird Puppet exhibit. He was the. dude who did the puppets for "Sound of Music".
Interesting enough shortly after he died, the bulk of his puppets was sold at a public auction. I wonder if they had the full set (I think they do), as they didn't have all on display. The baby ram was super cute. They also had a Warhol Campbells soup litho, and a few other known pop art pieces on display. A three hour drive with a bit of thrifting.
Attended the flea market in town today. I should inquire about vending one, just to clean out some of the stuff I have. On my first walk through I found a bunch of 80's 45's, that I thought about buying, although I know they would sit on a shelf. Of course when I did my second round, they were gone. Someone else found a good treasure.
Booted up one of the old computers to clean it off, before getting rid of it. Discovered a bunch of old photos and documents. Been digging into the past on all fronts lately. Dug in a box of old scrapbooks from my RSVP Cruise days. So thankful I put those together. Although those are stored in a box in the basement.
I did score on Ebay of all places a stack of RFD, Fairy magazines from the 80's. It was a good bulk purchase. Been starting to read through them, as many are a glimpse in the early aids crisis. Such a different time.
Hoping to find some motivation to get on some spring cleaning and re-orginzating.
