I'm not an artist.

But Cha Are Blanche, Ya Are

After returning from my altered book group in Minneapolis on Sunday, I have started to have second thoughts in continuing within the group. Partly spawing off of the conversation with [livejournal.com profile] tattooedartgirl in regards to crafters and artists. She's quite wise. Being new to this "world" it never occured to me there is a difference, but there is. A very LARGE divide between the masses. Crafters are those woman, who see the world as a basket of freshly picked roses. They have there little sweaters with "grandma knows best" sewen on them, and everything is just porcilin perfect. (GAG). Stereotypically midwestern, although its not fair to generalise, but why stop now. Midwestern in thoughts, ideas, and expression. Everything is cute, and cut perfect, and glued, and hand stamped, and oh, isn't that darling, and yeah, this and yeah that (GAG).

Artists are those who see the world as a giant massive dark blob of goo. Artists are those that strive for imperfection. That use mediums to express emotion, feeling, dreams. They are the ones constanly pushing the boundries-- they continue to mix oil and water, untill something comes of it. Face it. Artists: TRUE artists, are weird.

Reading M. Demeng's artfest speech, also his website and his quest for the perfect martini' has enlightened my soul. The view from the outside world into his, only makes the divide between the crafters and artists that much more profound. The crafters with the perfect punch, and die cuts, whereas the artists sculpts his or her own. Perfection vs imperfection. Oil, and water. Mix, turn. Mix.

Game over man. Game over.

Although the MN art group has proved to be useful in information and some techinique sharing, I find them very confined to images and insight (read-cute). This was reinforced by one of the members failing to look at my male nude book because of what it may or may not contain. Although there is some hope within the cut-outs and idea's, its the confining plastic bag that is suffocating............
